Section 8 - The Tale and the Parable

Original content

English translation

Perhaps a wind was blowing in the sanctuary, Sheikh Nasrabad was sitting peacefully. All the curtains of the Kaaba in the air, Were swaying pleasantly from the morning breeze. The Sheikh was pleased by this and leapt from his place, He grabbed the hem of that curtain in his hand. He said, 'O beautiful, proud bride, Sitting coquettishly in the middle of Mecca, Displaying yourself like a bride, Leaving a world of dervishes lifeless. A hundred worlds of people are bewildered by you, Wandering under every thorny acacia tree because of you. Every moment you place a shackle on a lover, You have slain so many with your display, how long will you do this? How long this boasting and this arrogance? O you whose inside is empty, how long will you be so full of yourself? If the Friend called you a house once, He called me "My servant" seventy times! Whoever became a servant in the mystery of love, Became an intimate confidant and alive for eternity. He turned his head away from the forefront of affairs, He snatched friends away from both light and fire. So that they became separated and free from hell, And arrived joyful without the Eden of Paradise.'
