مرغکی بانگی زد و لختی بجست
سر بجنبانید و بر شاخی نشست

چون سلیمان بانگ آن مرغک شنود
گفت میدانید تا او را چه بود

میکندبرشاخ از دنیا گله
زار میگرید که چند از مشغله

کز همه دنیای عالم سوز من
نیم خرما خورده ام امروز من

خاک بر دنیا که سودا میدهد
چون منی را نیم خرما میدهد

چون زدنیا نیم خرما میبسست
هرکه کرمان ملک خواهد ناکسست

هرکه او از دار دنیا پاک شد
نور مطلق گشت اگرچه خاک شد

هرکه او دنیای دون را کم گرفت
همچو صبح از صدق خود عالم گرفت

English translation

A little bird cried out and leaped a bit, Shook its head and sat upon a branch. When Solomon heard the cry of that little bird, He said, 'Do you know what was the matter with it? Upon the branch, it complains of the world, Weeping bitterly, saying, How long this turmoil! For from all my world-consuming world, I have eaten only half a date today. Dust upon the world that breeds such sorrow, Giving only half a date to one like me. Since half a date from the world is enough, Whoever desires the kingdom of Kerman is ignoble. Whoever became pure from the abode of this world, Became absolute light, even though he turned to dust. Whoever held the base world in low esteem, Like the morning, conquered the world through his sincerity.'
