کرد درویشی ز درویشی سؤال
کآرزویت چیست ای درویش حال

گفت از ملک دو عالم خشک و تر
ناچخی میبایدم اما دو سر

تا بیک سر وارهانم خویش را
وز دگر سر خواجهٔ درویش را

تا چو نه تو باشی و نه من پدید
حق شود بی ننگ ما روشن پدید

تا درین حضرت خودی میماندت
صد جهان پر بدی میماندت

زانکه گر موئی بماند از خودیت
هفت دوزخ پر برآید از بدیت

English translation

A dervish asked another dervish, 'What is your desire, O ecstatic dervish?' He said, 'From the wet and dry of the realm of both worlds, I only need a two-headed battle-axe, So that with one head I may deliver myself, And with the other head, the master of the dervish. So that when neither you nor I are evident, The Truth may become clearly evident without our disgrace. As long as selfhood remains with you in this Presence, A hundred worlds full of evil remain with you. Because if even a hair of your selfhood remains, Seven hells will be filled by your evil.'
