زین گدائی بر ایاز آشفته شد
این سخن در پیش سلطان گفته شد
پیش خویشش خواند حالی شهریار
گفت ازین پس با ایازت نیست کار
گر بود کاریت بیم کشتن است
تو نمیدانی کایاز آن من است
مرد گفت ای پادشاه حق شناس
گر ازان تست این ساعت ایاس
عشق نیست آن تو من اکنون شدم
عشق بردم وز میان بیرون شدم
گر کنی از وی فراقی حاصلم
چون توانی برد عشقش از دلم
English translation
A beggar became infatuated with Ayaz, And this matter was reported to the Sultan. The King immediately summoned him to his presence, And said, 'From now on, you have no business with Ayaz. If you pursue this, you risk execution; Do you not know that Ayaz is mine?' The man replied, 'O truth-recognizing King, Even if Ayaz is yours at this moment, Love is not yours; I have now departed. I carried away the love and stepped out of the way. Even if you force my separation from him, How can you ever take his love from my heart?'
