میدوید آن عامی زیر و زبر
تا نماز مرده در یابد مگر

آن یکی دیوانه چون او را بدید
کو در آن تعجیل بیخود میدوید

گفت چیزی سرد میگردد براه
هین بدو تا در رسی آنجایگاه

هستی از مردار دنیا ناصبور
میروی چون مرده میبینی ز دور

میخوری مردار دنیا ماه و سال
وین خود از جوعست برمردان حلال

تا که یک عاقل برآرد یک دمی
جاهلان خوردند در هم عالمی

تا بحکمت لقمهٔ لقمان خورد
در خیانت خائنی صد جان خورد

اهل دنیا چون سگ دیوانه اند
در گزندت زانکه بس بیگانه اند

میخورند از جهل مرداری بناز
میکنند آنگه کفن از مرده باز

English translation

That common man was running frantically, Hoping perhaps to catch the funeral prayer. When a certain madman saw him, Running out of his senses in such haste, He said, "Something is getting cold on the way, Hurry, run, so you may reach that place!" You are impatient for the carrion of the world, You go running when you see a corpse from afar. You eat the carrion of the world month and year, Though this is lawful for true men only out of starvation. By the time a wise man takes a single breath, The ignorant have devoured a whole world together. By the time Luqman eats a morsel with wisdom, In treachery, a traitor devours a hundred souls. The people of the world are like mad dogs, Harmful to you, for they are complete strangers. Out of ignorance, they delightfully eat carrion, And then they even strip the shroud from the dead.
