آن یکی حمال خوش بنشسته بود
رشتهٔ حمالیش بگسسته بود

سایلی گفتش چرا ای مرد خام
این چنین بیکار بنشستی مدام

سیم از تو باز میافتد بسی
چون کند بی سیم بیکاری کسی

پس زفان بگشاد حمال دژم
گفت باز افتد گر از من یک درم

یک درم گر رفت صد من بار نیز
باز میافتد ز پشتم ای عزیز

بار تا چندی کشی بی بار باش
گر دمی باقیست برخوردار باش

English translation

A certain porter was sitting happily, His porter's rope had snapped. A questioner asked him, 'Why, oh naive man, Are you sitting idle like this constantly? Much silver is slipping away from you, How can someone remain idle without silver?' Then the gloomy porter opened his mouth, And said, 'If I miss out on one dirham, If one dirham is gone, a hundred maunds of load also Will slip away from my back, oh dear friend. How long will you carry a burden? Be without burden! If a breath remains, enjoy it.'
