خواجهٔ مجنون شد و مبهوت گشت
بیدل و بی قوت و بی قوت گشت

در گدائی و اسیری اوفتاد
در بلا و رنج و پیری اوفتاد

کوه نتواند همی هرگز کشید
صد یک آن بار کان عاجز کشید

یک شبی در راز آمد با خدای
گفت ای هم رهبر و هم رهنمای

این که تو هستی اگر من بودمی
از خودت پیوسته میآسودمی

یک دمت اندوهگین نگذارمی
ای به از من به ازینت دارمی

بیدلان چون گرم در کار آمدند
از وجود خویش بیزار آمدند

English translation

A master went mad and became bewildered, He became disheartened, devoid of strength, and destitute of food. He fell into beggary and captivity, He fell into affliction, suffering, and old age. A mountain could never bear A hundredth of the burden that this helpless one carried. One night, he entered into secret communion with God, He said, 'O You who are both leader and guide! If I were the one that You are, I would constantly give You rest from Yourself. I would not leave You sorrowful for a single breath; O You who are better than me, I would keep You better than this.' When the enraptured ones become inflamed in their pursuit, They grow disgusted with their own existence.
