شیر دین سفیان ثوری شمع شرع
گفت قوم خویش را کای جمع شرع

لذت و خوشی خوردن در طعام
بیش چندان نیست کز لب تا بکام

این قدر ره صبر کن آسان بود
تا خوش و ناخوش ترا یکسان بود

میزنی بیهوده همچون سگ تگی
تو کئی در صورت مردم سگی

تا ترا یک استخوان آید بدست
عمر و جانت از دست شد ای سگ پرست

تو همای روح را ده استخوان
زانکه بس افسوس باشد سگ بدان

قوت مردان روح را جان دادنست
چیست قوت تو به سگ نان دادنست

ای به سگ مشغول گشته ماه و سال
چند خواهی بود با سگ در جوال

گر به امر سگ شوی در کار تیز
از سگان خیزی به روز رستخیز

English translation

The lion of religion, Sufyan al-Thawri, the candle of the law, Said to his people, 'O assembly of the law! The pleasure and delight of eating food, Is nothing more than the distance from the lips to the palate. Be patient for this short distance, it will be easy, So that the pleasant and unpleasant become the same to you. You are running around pointlessly like a dog, Who are you? In the form of a human, you are a dog! Just so a bone may fall into your hand, Your life and soul are lost, O dog-worshipper! Give the bone to the Huma bird of the soul, For it is a great pity to give it to a dog. The nourishment of the men of the spirit is to give their soul, What is your nourishment? It is giving bread to a dog! O you who have been occupied with the dog for months and years, How long will you remain in a sack with a dog? If you are quick to act at the command of the dog, You will rise among the dogs on the Day of Resurrection.'
