کردروزی چند سارخگی قرار
بر درختی بس قوی یعنی چنار

چون سفر را کرد آخر کار راست
از چنار کوه پیکر عذر خواست

گفت زحمت دادمت بسیار من
زحمتی ندهم دگر این بار من

مهر برداشت از زفان حالی چنار
گفت خود را بیش ازین رنجه مدار

فارغم از آمدن وز رفتنت
نیست جز بیهوده درهم گفتنت

زانکه گرچون تو درآید صد هزار
یک دمم با آن نباشد هیچ کار

خواه بامن صبر کن خواهی مکن
تو که باشی تا ز من گوئی سخن

لیک اگر از عجز آئی پیش در
زانچه میجوئی بیابی بیشتر

English translation

For a few days, a starling rested Upon a very strong tree, that is, a plane tree. When at last it prepared for its journey, It asked for forgiveness from the mountain-like plane tree. It said, 'I have caused you much trouble, I will not cause you trouble again this time.' The plane tree immediately broke the seal of its tongue, And said, 'Do not distress yourself more than this. I am indifferent to your coming and going, Your babbling is nothing but foolishness. For if a hundred thousand like you were to arrive, I would not have a moment's concern with them. Whether you stay with me or not, Who are you to speak of me? But if you come to the door out of helplessness, You will find more of what you are seeking.'
