کرد حاتم را سؤال آن مرد خام
کز کجا آری تو هر روزی طعام

گفت حاتم تا که جان دارم بجای
هست قوت من ز انبان خدای

مرد گفتش تو بسالوس و برنگ
میکنی مال مسلمانان بچنگ

روز و شب مال مسلمانان بری
چون بخوردی عاقبت را ننگری

حاتمش گفتا که ای مرد عزیز
خورده ام زان تو هرگز هیچ چیز

گفت نه گفتا مسلمان پس نهٔ
تن بزن چون این سخن را کس نهٔ

سایلش گفتا که حجت می میار
گفت حجت خواهد از ما کردگار

گفت میخواهی که چون کارت خطاست
کاین خطاها را سخن بنهی تو راست

گفت از هفت آسمان آمد سخن
از خدا هم با میان آمد سخن

مادرت چون شوهری کرد اختیار
شدحلال از یک سخن آغاز کار

سایلش گفتا تو کرده خوش نشست
زآسمان ناید ترا روزی بدست

گفت روزی همه خلق جهان
همچو روزی من آید زآسمان

کانکه او دارندهٔ جان و جهانست
گفت روزی همه در آسمانست

گفت دایم پای در دامن ترا
روزئی میناید از روزن ترا

گفت بودم درشکم نه ماه من
بردم از روزن بروزی راه من

سائلش گفتا بخسب اکنون ستان
تا درآید روزی تو در دهان

گفت من قرب دو سال ای کوربین
بوده ام در گاهواره همچنین

من ستان خفته در آن مهد بزر
در دهانم شیر میریخت از زبر

سایلش گفتا که باید کشت زود
هیچکس ناکشته هرگز چون درود

حاتمش گفتا که ای سرگشته من
موی سر میبدروم ناکشته من

گفت ناپخته بخور تا بنگرم
گفت ناپخته چو مرغان هم خورم

گفت زیر آب شو روزی طلب
گفت چون ماهی شوم نبود عجب

مرد عاجز گشت ازو حیران بماند
زان سخن انگشت در دندان بماند

عاقبت بر دست حاتم بازگشت
توبه کرد و همدم و همراز گشت

لطف و رزق حق درین منزل طلب
حل این مشکل درون دل طلب

چون همه زآنجایگه بینی مدام
کار تو زآنجایگه گردد تمام

English translation

That foolish man asked Hatim, "From where do you bring your food every day?" Hatim said, "As long as my soul remains in its place, My sustenance comes from God's storehouse." The man said to him, "With hypocrisy and deceit, You grab the wealth of Muslims in your clutches. Day and night you take the wealth of Muslims; When you have eaten, you do not consider the outcome." Hatim said to him, "O dear man, Have I ever eaten anything of yours?" He said, "No." Hatim said, "Then you are not a Muslim; Keep quiet, for you are a nobody to this speech." The questioner said to him, "Do not bring arguments!" He said, "The Creator will demand arguments from us." He said, "Because your actions are wrong, you want To make these wrongs right with words." He said, "From the seven heavens the word came, From God, too, the word came into the midst. When your mother chose a husband, The affair became lawful through a single word." The questioner said, "You are sitting comfortably; Sustenance does not come into your hands from the sky." He said, "The sustenance of all the world's creatures, Like my sustenance, comes from the sky. For He who is the Keeper of soul and world, Has said that the sustenance of all is in the sky." He said, "With your feet always drawn into your skirt (sitting idle), No sustenance will come to you through the window." He said, "I was in the womb for nine months, I found a way to my sustenance through a window." The questioner said, "Now sleep on your back, So your sustenance may enter your mouth!" He said, "For nearly two years, O blind observer! I was exactly like this in the cradle. Sleeping on my back in that great cradle, Milk would pour into my mouth from above." The questioner said, "One must sow quickly, No one has ever reaped without having sown!" Hatim said to him, "O bewildered one, I reap the hair of my head without having sown." He said, "Eat it raw, so I can see!" He said, "Like birds, I will eat it raw as well." He said, "Go underwater and seek sustenance!" He said, "If I become like a fish, it would be no surprise." The man became powerless and stood bewildered by him, Due to those words, he bit his finger in astonishment. Eventually, he repented at Hatim's hand, He repented and became a close companion and confidant. Seek God's grace and provision in this dwelling, Seek the resolution of this difficulty within the heart. Since you constantly see everything from that place, Your affairs will be made complete from that place.
