بود آن دیوانه دل برخاسته
وز غم بی نانیش جان کاسته

میگریست از غم که یک نانش نبود
چون نبودش نان غم جانش نبود

آن یکی گفتش که مگری ای نژند
کان خداوندی که این سقف بلند

بی ستونی در هوا بنهاد او
روزی تو هم تواند داد او

مرد مجنون گفت ای کاش این زمان
از برای محکمی آسمان

حق تعالی صد ستون بنهادهٔ
بی زحیری نان می میدادهٔ

نان خورش میباید و نانم کنون
من چه دانم آسمان بی ستون

English translation

That madman whose heart was detached, And whose soul was diminished from the sorrow of lacking bread, He wept from sorrow that he did not have a single loaf of bread, Since he had no bread, he had no concern for his soul. Someone said to him, 'Do not weep, O sorrowful one, For that Lord who placed this lofty roof In the air without a single pillar, Can also give you your daily sustenance.' The madman said, 'I wish that at this time, For the sake of the firmness of the sky, God Almighty had placed a hundred pillars, And had provided bread without hardship. Now I need bread and something to eat it with, What do I know of a sky without a pillar?'
