پیش آن دیوانهٔ شد پادشا
گفت از من حاجتی خواه ای گدا

گفت دارم من دو حاجت در جهان
بو که از شاهم برآید این زمان

اول از دوزخ چو خوش برهانیم
در بهشتم آری و بنشانیم

پادشاهش گفت ای حیران راه
هست این کار خدا از من مخواه

بود مجنون را یکی خم پیش در
شاه آن خم را ستاده بر زبر

گفت دور از پیش خم تا نرم نرم
خم شود از تابش خورشید گرم

زانکه شب تا روز در خم میشوم
گرم و خوش میخسبم و گم میشوم

جامهٔ خوابم خمست ای نامور
دور ازان سر تا نگردد سردتر

نه مرا شد از تو یک حاجت روا
نه ز تو درد مرا آمد دوا

چون نکردی داروی این درد تو
جامه خوابم را مگردان سرد تو

آنکه صد تیمار دارش نیست بس
چون تواند داشتن تیمار کس

English translation

A king went before that madman, He said, "Ask a favor of me, O beggar." He said, "I have two requests in the world, Perhaps they can be fulfilled by the king at this time. First, gracefully deliver me from hell, And bring me to paradise and settle me there." The king said to him, "O bewildered one of the path, This is the work of God; do not ask it of me." The madman had a vat in front of a door, The king was standing over that vat. He said, "Step away from the front of the vat, so that gently, The vat may grow warm from the shining of the hot sun. Because from night to day I go into the vat, I sleep warmly and pleasantly and become lost. My bed is a vat, O renowned one, Move away from that end so it does not become colder. Neither was a single need of mine fulfilled by you, Nor did a cure for my pain come from you. Since you did not provide the medicine for this pain, Do not make my bed cold. He who is not satisfied with a hundred caregivers, How can he take care of anyone?"
