چون زلیخا شد ز یوسف بی قرار
با میان آورد عشقش از کنار

بر زلیخا شد همه عالم سیاه
تا کند یوسف بسوی او نگاه

ذره ای یوسف بدو می ننگریست
تا زلیخا بر سر او می گریست

هر زمان از پیش او برخاستی
خویش از نوع دگر آراستی

جلوه می کردی به پیش روی او
ننگرستی هیچ یوسف سوی او

چون زلیخا شد به جان درمانده
حیلتی بر ساخت آن درمانده

خانه ای فرمود بر هر سوی او
کرده صورت جمله نقش روی او

چار دیوارش چو سقف از هر کنار
بود از نقش زلیخا پر نگار

لایق آن خانه مفرش ساخت او
هم ز نقش خود منقش ساخت او

گفت یوسف قبلهٔ روی عزیز
چون نمی بیند چه خواهد بود نیز

چون رخم نقد عزیز عالم است
نیل مصر جامعم را شبنم است

چون عزیزم من چنین در چشم خود
برکشم چون مصر نیل از چشم بد

شش جهت در صورت خویش آورم
یوسف صدیق را پیش آورم

تا چو بیند نقش من از خانه او
همچو من از من شود دیوانه او

عاقبت چون حیله ساخت آن دلربای
کرد یوسف را درون خانه جای

یوسف از هر سوی که افکندی نظر
نقش آن دلداده دیدی پیش در

شش جهاتش صورت آن روی بود
ای عجب یک صورت از شش سوی بود

یوسف صدیق جان پاک تو
در درون خانهٔ پر خاک تو

چون نگه می کرد از هر سوی او
می ندید از شش جهت جز روی او

دید در هر ذره ای انوار حق
موج می زد جزو جزو اسرار حق

لاجرم گر ماهی و گر ماه دید
هر دو عالم نور وجه الله دید

English translation

When Zulaykha became restless for Joseph, She brought her love from the margins into the open. The whole world turned black for Zulaykha, Simply so Joseph might cast a glance her way. Joseph would not look at her for even an atom's measure, While Zulaykha wept over him. Every time she arose from his presence, She adorned herself in a different manner. She would display her charms before his face, Yet Joseph never looked towards her. When Zulaykha became desperately helpless in her soul, That helpless one devised a trick. She commanded the building of a house, where on every side Images were entirely painted with the portrait of her face. Its four walls, as well as the ceiling from every edge, Were full of paintings of Zulaykha's portrait. She crafted a carpet suitable for that house, And patterned it, too, with her own portrait. She said, 'Since Joseph does not look upon the face of the beloved, What else will happen? Since my face is the precious coin of the world, The Nile of Egypt is but a dewdrop to my garment. Since I am so dear in my own eyes, I will draw the evil eye away like the Nile of Egypt. I will cover all six directions with my own image, And bring Joseph the Truthful forward. So that when he sees my portrait from the house, He will become madly in love with me, just as I am.' Ultimately, when that heart-stealer completed the trick, She placed Joseph inside the house. Wherever Joseph cast his glance, He saw the portrait of that enamored one before him. His six directions were the image of that face; Oh wonder! One face appeared from all six directions. Joseph the Truthful, of pure soul, Inside that house full of dust (the material world), When he looked from every side, He saw nothing from the six directions but His (God's) face. In every atom he saw the lights of the Truth (God), Every part was surging with the secrets of the Truth. Consequently, whether he saw a fish or the moon, In both worlds he saw the light of the Face of Allah.
