خونئی را زار میبردند و خوار
تا درآویزند سر زیرش ز دار

او طرب میکرد و بس دل زنده بود
خنده میزد وان چه جای خنده بود

سایلی گفتش که آزادی چرا
وقت کشتن این چنین شادی چرا

گفت چون عمر از قضاماند این قدر
کی توان برد این قدر در غم بسر

تا که این میگفت حق دادش نجات
از ممات او برون آمد حیات

هرچه برهم مینهی بر هم منه
هیچ کس را هیچ بیش و کم منه

هرچه داری جمله آنجا میفرست
کم بود از نیم خرما میفرست

زانکه هرچ آنجا فرستی آن تراست
وانچه میداری نگه تاوان تراست

English translation

A murderer was being taken away, miserable and wretched, To be hanged upside down from the gallows. He was rejoicing and his heart was full of life; He was laughing, though what a place it was for laughter! A questioner asked him, 'Why are you so carefree? Why are you so joyful at the time of execution?' He said, 'Since by destiny only this much of life remains, How can one spend even this amount in sorrow?' While he was saying this, the Truth (God) granted him salvation; Out of his death, life emerged. Whatever you pile up, do not pile it up; Do not place any more or less burden on anyone. Whatever you possess, send it all ahead there; Even if it is just half a date, send it. For whatever you send ahead is yours, And whatever you hold back is your loss.
