آن یکی دیوانهٔ یک گرده خواست
گفت من بی برگم این کار خداست

مرد مجنون گفتش ای شوریده حال
من خدا را آزمودم قحط سال

بود وقت غز ز هر سو مردهٔ
و او نداد از بی نیازی گردهٔ

English translation

That madman asked for a loaf of bread; He said, 'I am destitute, this is God's work.' The crazy man said to him, 'O troubled soul, I tested God during the year of famine; It was the time of the Oghuz, dead bodies were everywhere, And He, in His self-sufficiency, did not give a single loaf.'
