آن گدائی چون برست از نان و آب
بعد مرگ او کسی دیدش بخواب

گفت حق با تو چه کرد ای مهربان
گفت چون رفتم بر حق گفت هان

پیشم آور تا چه آوردی مرا
گفتم آخر من چه دارم ای خدا

قرب پنجه سال رفتم در بدر
راه پیمودم جهانی سر بسر

جمله میگفتند ای مرد گدا
نیست ما را نان پدید آرد خدا

مردمان نانم ندادندی بسی
با تو کردندی حوالت هر کسی

چون حوالت باتو آمد روز و شب
از گدائی میکنی چیزی طلب

جمله گفتندی خدا بدهد ترا
پس بده گر میدهی ای پادشاه

شاه هرگز از گدا چیزی نخواست
گر نخواهد خالق شاهان رواست

چون حوالت با تو آمد در پذیر
وین گدا را دست گیر ای دست گیر

پادشاها چون همه هیچیم ما
سر ز فرمان تو چون پیچیم ما

قدرت وعلم وارادت چون تراست
هرچه خواهی میتوانی کرد راست

گرچه کردم جرم بسیار ای خدای
قادری ناکرده انگار ای خدای

هست جود و فضل تو بحری عظیم
در بر آن کی بود امکان بیم

English translation

When that beggar broke free from bread and water, After his death, someone saw him in a dream. He said, 'What did the Truth [God] do with you, O kind one?' He replied, 'When I went before the Truth, He said, 'Behold, Bring before Me what you have brought for Me.' I said, 'After all, what do I have, O God? For nearly fifty years I went from door to door, I traversed the world from end to end. They all would say, 'O beggar man, We have no bread; may God provide for you.' The people often gave me no bread, And everyone referred me to You. Since the referral came to You day and night, Are You asking for something from a beggar? Everyone would say, 'May God give it to you.' So give, if You are to give, O King. A king never asked a beggar for anything; If the Creator of kings does not ask, it is fitting. Since the referral came to You, accept it, And take the hand of this beggar, O Taker of hands.' O King, since we are all nothing, How can we turn our heads from Your command? Since power, knowledge, and will are Yours, Whatever You wish, You can make right. Although I have committed many sins, O God, You are capable; consider them undone, O God. Your generosity and grace are a vast ocean; Beside it, how can there be any possibility of fear?'
