بود مجنونی همیشه بی کلاه
برهنه سر میشدی دایم براه

سائلی گفتش که ای شوریده نام
برهنه سر از چه میباشی مدام

گفت سرپوشیده زن باشد نه مرد
این سؤال بد که تو کردی که کرد

گفت پایت از چه باری برهنهست
گفت ای احمق سری کو یک تنهست

چون برهنه میبود این سر مرا
پای ازو نبود گرامی تر مرا

چون درین ره پای و سر در باختی
قدر بی قدری خود بشناختی

خویشتن را در میان آوردنت
هست سودی با زیان آوردنت

English translation

There was a madman always without a hat, He always went bareheaded on the path. An inquirer asked him, 'O you of disturbed name, Why are you constantly bareheaded?' He said, 'A woman's head is covered, not a man's; Who has ever asked such a bad question as you?' The inquirer asked, 'Why then are your feet bare?' He said, 'O fool, a head that is solitary, Since this head of mine remains bare, My feet are no more precious to me than it. When you lose foot and head on this path, You will recognize the value of your own valuelessness. Bringing yourself into the middle, Is a profit that brings you loss.'
