کاملی گفته ست کز بیم گناه
گر نبودی پیش حاصل رنج راه

یا زجان کندن بلا بودی و بس
یا عذاب گور بودی پیش و پس

یا صراطستی و یا میزانستی
هرچه هستی آن همه آسانستی

این همه سهل است اگر نبود فراق
چون بود فرقت دلی پر اشتیاق

هر عذابی کان همی داند یکی
جمله در جنب فراقست اندکی

تو چه دانی ای پسر سوز فراق
عاشقی داند دلی پراشتیاق

تو چو عاشق نیستی دل مردهٔ
دعوی عشق از چه در سرکردهٔ

English translation

A perfect one has said that out of fear of sin, If the pain of the path did not precede the harvest, Or if the affliction were merely the agony of death, Or if the torment of the grave were before and after, Or if it were the Bridge of Sirat or the Scales of Mizan, Whatever it might be, all of it would be easy. All of this is easy, if there were no separation; How can a heart full of yearning endure separation? Every torment that anyone might know, Is entirely little compared to separation. What do you know, O son, of the burning of separation? A lover with a yearning heart knows it. Since you are not a lover, your heart is dead; Why have you entertained the claim of love in your head?
