آن یکی پرسید از مجنون مگر
کز سخنها تو چه داری دوستر

گفت من لا دوستر دارم مدام
تاکه جان دارم مرا لا می تمام

گفت تا باشد نعم ای بیخبر
لا تو از بهر چه داری دوستر

گفت وقتی کردم از لیلی سؤال
کای رخت خورشید را داده زوال

دوستم داری چنین گفتا که لا
میکشم بر پشتی آن لا بلا

از زفانش تا که لا بشنوده ام
از دل و جان عاشق لا بوده ام

نیست لایق لاجرم اصلا مرا
یک سخن لا والله الا لا مرا

عشق را جانی بباید آتشین
دوزخی با آتش او همنشین

تا دل عشاق افروزنده شد
از تف آتش چنین سوزنده شد

آتش از عشقست در سوز آمده
گرم در عشق دلفروز آمده

جملهٔ ذرات پیدا ونهان
نقطهٔ عشقست در هر دوجهان

English translation

Someone asked Majnun by chance, "Of all words, which do you love the most?" He said, "I constantly love 'La' (No) the most; As long as I have a soul, 'La' is entirely sufficient for me." He said, "While 'Na'am' (Yes) exists, O ignorant one, Why do you love 'La' the most?" He said, "Once I asked Layla, 'O you whose face has caused the sun to decline! Do you love me?' She replied like this: 'La' (No). I endure afflictions relying on that 'La'. Since I heard 'La' from her tongue, With heart and soul, I have been a lover of 'La'. Therefore, absolutely no other word is fitting for me, Not a single word, by God, except 'La' for me." Love requires a fiery soul, A hell intimately seated with its fire. So that the lovers' hearts became illuminated, From the heat of the fire, it became so burning. Fire has come to burn from love, It has become warm in heart-illuminating love. All atoms, both visible and hidden, Are the focal point of love in both worlds.
