بوسعید مهنه شیخ محترم
بود در حمام با پیری بهم

سخت حمامی خوش ودمساز بود
زانکه آب و آتشش هم ساز بود

پیر گفت ای شیخ حمامی خوشست
وز خوشی هم دلگشا هم دلکشست

شیخ گفتش هیچدانی خوش چراست
گفت میدانم بگویم با تو راست

چون درین حمام شیخی چون تو هست
خوش شد و خوش گشت و خوش آمد نشست

شیخ گفتش زین بهت خواهم بیان
پای من چون آوریدی در میان

پیر گفتش تو بگو شیخا جواب
کانچه تو گوئی جز آن نبود صواب

گفت حمامیست خوش از حد برون
کز متاع جملهٔ دنیای دون

نیست جز سطل و ازاری با تو چیز
وانگهی آن هر دو نیست آن تو نیز

English translation

Abu Sa'id of Mihna, the revered sheikh, Was in a bathhouse together with an old man. It was a very pleasant and agreeable bathhouse, Because its water and fire were in harmony. The old man said, "O Sheikh, the bathhouse is pleasant, And from its pleasantness, it is both heart-opening and attractive." The sheikh asked him, "Do you know why it is pleasant?" He replied, "I know, and I will tell you the truth: Since in this bathhouse there is a sheikh like you, It became pleasant, grew pleasant, and pleasantly it settled." The sheikh said to him, "I want a better explanation than this, Since you have brought me into the matter." The old man said, "You give the answer, O Sheikh, For whatever you say, nothing else could be right." He said, "The bathhouse is pleasant beyond measure, Because from the belongings of the entire lowly world, There is nothing with you except a bucket and a loincloth, And furthermore, even those two are not yours."
