Section 2 - The Tale and the Parable

Original content

English translation

A seeker had lost his desired one, Day and night he laid his head in the world. Distraught with the sorrow of soul and world, He wandered the world with a crazed soul. In his quest, he knew not head from foot, He fashioned for himself iron shoes. When he had traversed the world a hundred times, Oh wonder, he wore out those iron shoes. Atom by atom, on the long road they were ground down, The iron of his shoes, without a comforter. Though he wandered much from his pain, He found not even the dust of Him on any path. At last, three paths appeared before him, At the head of each path was a black inscription. At the head of one path it was written: 'O servant, If you go down this path, you are safe. Though this is a difficult and long path, You will eventually return from this path.' On the second path it was written: 'O pure one, If you go down this great path, Either you will suddenly emerge at the end, Or you will never emerge from here forever.' On the third was written: 'O pure man, If you go down this path of destruction, You will never emerge for all eternity, Neither a trace of you will remain, nor any news. You will be annihilated, lost, and brought to nothing, Whatever is more ephemeral than this, you will be that too.' He said, 'Since there is no hope of union, The matter is nothing but eternal despair. This third path is my perpetual way,' He said this and set off on that path, and that was all. The first path is walking in the Sharia (Law), Walking in worship without yielding to bodily nature. Then, your second path is the Tariqa (Way), And if you seek the third, it is the Haqiqat (Truth). If you wish to step into the Haqiqat, You will be annihilated as long as you breathe. Whoever takes two steps on the path of Haqiqat, Becomes non-existent for eternity, and that is all. With the first step, he becomes absolutely free from himself, Then with the second step, he is annihilated in the Truth. Whoever catches even a scent of that place, Cannot be contained, even if he were just a single hair.
