Section 7 - The Tale and the Parable

Original content

English translation

Malik Dinar was awake throughout the night, During the day, too, he was at work with a burning heart. When he brought the long nights into day, Just like the nights, he resumed burning in the day. Day and night, his patience and rest were gone, How could such a person have slept? He had a daughter whose heart burned for her father; She said, "At last, sleep at night and do not grieve! The people are all asleep, you are like a star; For what reason do you not sleep a single night?" He said, "Sleeping is not your father's cure, For I fear a night ambush, O soul of your father! If one sleeps in the path of a flood, When he wakes, there will be wailing! I do not know what kind of men they were, Who did not rest for a single moment from action. If you had but a moment's sorrow for them, Your pain would be incurable until eternity. Their pain is not from acquisition; it is a bestowal, How could such a pain be truly attained from acquisition?"
