Section 8 - The Tale and the Parable

Original content

English translation

Someone saw a pure and devout Sheikh in a dream, When he greeted him, he heard no reply. He said, 'O great and well-reputed one, Why do you not return my greeting? Since you know that this reply is obligatory, Then return my answer and do not turn your head away.' He said, 'I know it is obligatory, O Imam, But this door is completely closed to us. How can I give you an answer back, When the door of obedience is shut tight? No obedience, neither bowing nor prostration, Will ever come into existence from us until eternity. If I were in the abode of the world like you, When would I rest from obedience for a single moment? Before this, we were a handful of unaware people, Only now do we know the true value of it all. Alas! The path of obedience has been closed, The breath was severed, and sorrow became continuous. Neither a path toward obedience remained for me, Nor did the courage to heave a sigh remain in my heart. Alas! The long life has passed away, Sorrow remained, and the story cannot be retold. Every breath was tearing up a hundred mountains, But he was cast out empty from his mother. Alas! We did not know, We were capable of doing the work. Consequently, today we remain bewildered, In regret, we remain in a prison. The bird knows the value of its wings and feathers, however little, At that time when its wings and feathers burn. Out of blindness, you do not know the path from the well, Arise and ask God for seeing eyes. O Lord, how beautifully they would arrange your affairs, If they make you aware of your own blindness. You have come like a sea bubble full of wind, And thus your foundation is built upon the wind. You remain full of wind at this moment, unaware, Wait until the wind comes out of your head.'
