احمد خضرویه گفت آن دیده ور
دیده ام خلق جهان را سر بسر

جمله بر یک آخورند از خاص و عام
جمله را یک قوت میبینم مدام

سائلی گفتش که ای شیخ کبار
تو بر آن آخور نبودی هیچ بار

گفت بودم گفت پس ای دیده ور
چیست از تو فرق تا خلق دگر

گفت فرقست آنکه خلقان دیگرند
جمله شادی میکنند و میخورند

می سکیزند ونمیدانند حال
می بر افرازند سر از جاه و مال

جمله میخندند و مینازند خوش
جمله میمانند و میتازند خوش

لیک من کم میخورم وز بهر زیست
نیستم غافل که دانم حال چیست

خون چو باران میفشانم هر زمان
مینخندم میننازم از جهان

فرق از من تا بدیشان این بسست
توشهٔ راه مسلمان این بسست

نعمت دنیا مهلل آمدست
بعد صد حکمت بحاصل آمدست

پاکی و تهلیل وصف خاص اوست
گر به تسبیحش رسانی بس نکوست

ور برای سگ خوری نعمت مدام
در حقیقت گردد آن نعمت حرام

نعمتی در پاکی و در طاعتی
باتو گر صحبت کند یک ساعتی

از پلیدی ننگ عالم میشود
نامش از عالم بیک دم میشود

English translation

Ahmad Khazruya said, that visionary, "I have seen the people of the world from end to end. All are at one manger, both the elite and the common, I see a single sustenance for them all continuously." An inquirer said to him, "O great Sheikh, Were you never at that manger even once?" He said, "I was." The inquirer said, "Then, O visionary, What is the difference between you and the other people?" He said, "The difference is that the other people All make merry and eat. They frolic and do not know the condition, They raise their heads proudly due to status and wealth. They all laugh and take pride happily, They all linger and rush about happily. But I eat little, and only for the sake of living, I am not oblivious, for I know what the condition is. I shed tears of blood like rain at every moment, I do not laugh, I do not take pride in the world. The difference from me to them is just this, The provision for the path of a Muslim is just this. The bounty of the world has come as lawful, After a hundred wisdoms it has been obtained. Purity and praise are its special attributes, If you bring it to glorify God, it is very good. But if you eat the bounty continuously for the dog (carnal soul), In truth, that bounty becomes forbidden. A bounty that in purity and obedience, If it keeps company with you for an hour, Through impurity it becomes the shame of the world, Its name vanishes from the world in a single breath."
