رابعه یک روز در وقت بهار
شد درون خانهٔ تاریک و تار

سر فرو برد از همه عالم بزیر
همچنان میبود خوش خوش تا بدیر

پیش او شد زاهدی گفت این زمان
خیز بیرون آی وبنگر در جهان

تا ببینی صنع رنگارنگ او
چند باشی بیش ازین دلتنگ او

رابعه گفتش که تو در خانه آی
تا به بینی صانع ای دیوانه رای

تا چه خواهم کرد صنع بحر و بر
صانعم نقدست با صنعم مبر

گر بصانع در دلت راهی بود
در بر آن صنع چون کاهی بود

چون کسی را این چنین راهیست باز
از چه باید کرد بر خود ره دراز

کعبهٔ جان روی جانان دیدنست
روی او در کعبهٔ جان دیدنست

گر چنین بینی جهان بین خوانمت
ورنه نابینای بی دین خوانمت

English translation

One day in the springtime, Rabia Went inside a dark and gloomy house. She bowed her head, withdrawn from the whole world, And remained thus joyfully for a long while. An ascetic approached her and said, 'Now, Arise, come outside and gaze at the world, So you may see His colorful creation. How much longer will you remain confined for Him?' Rabia said to him, 'You come inside the house, So you may see the Creator, O foolish-minded one! What use is the creation of sea and land to me? The Creator is my present possession, do not drag me to creation. If there is a path to the Creator in your heart, Beside Him, creation is but a piece of straw. When someone has such an open path, Why should they prolong the journey for themselves? The Kaaba of the soul is seeing the face of the Beloved, His face is to be seen within the Kaaba of the soul. If you see in this way, I will call you world-seeing, Otherwise, I will call you a blind and faithless person.'
