کشتئی افتاد در غرقاب سخت
بود در کشتی حریصی شور بخت

نقدش آهن بود خرواری مگر
بود با او همنشین مردی دگر

نقد این پرحواصل بود و بس
موج چون بسیار شد از پیش و پش

آنکه داشت آهن همه بر پشت بست
وین بدان پر حواصل بر نشست

عاقبت چون گشت آن کشتی خراب
مرد را افکند آن آهن در آب

وان دگر یک راه ساحل برگرفت
خوش خوشش پرحواصل برگرفت

ای شده عمری گران بار گناه
مینترسی پیش و پس آبی سیاه

بادلی چون آهن و باری گران
کی رسد کشتی ایمان با کران

گر ز دریا راه ساحل بایدت
بار چون پر حواصل بایدت

ورنه در غرقاب خون افتاده گیر
از گران باری نگون افتاده گیر

کار خود در زندگانی کن ببرگ
زانکه نتوان کرد کاری روز مرگ

این زمان دریاب کآسان باشدت
ور نه دشواری فراوان باشدت

English translation

A ship fell into a severe whirlpool, There was an ill-fated greedy man on the ship. His wealth was perhaps a ton of iron, There was another man sitting with him. This one's wealth was nothing but pelican feathers, When the waves rose high from front and back. The one who had iron tied it all to his back, And this one sat upon those pelican feathers. Ultimately, when that ship was wrecked, That iron cast the man down into the water. And that other one took the path to the shore, The pelican feathers pleasantly carried him along. O you who have spent a lifetime carrying the heavy burden of sin, Do you not fear the black water before and behind you? With a heart like iron and a heavy burden, How will the ship of faith ever reach the shore? If you seek the path from the sea to the shore, Your burden must be as light as pelican feathers. Otherwise, consider yourself cast into a whirlpool of blood, Consider yourself fallen headlong due to your heavy burden. Prepare for your work while you are still alive, For nothing can be done on the day of death. Seize this moment while it is still easy for you, Otherwise, you will face abundant hardship.
