میگریست آن بیدل دیوانه زار
آن یکی گفتش چرائی اشکبار
گفت گیرم میشکیبم برهنه
چون نگریم زانکه هستم گرسنه
گفت اگرچه میکند نانت هوس
چون زگرسنگی بگرید چون تو کس
گفت آخر چون نگریم ده تنه
کاو ازان دارد چنینم گرسنه
تا بگریم همچو ابر نوبهار
لاجرم میگریم اکنون زار زار
English translation
That heart-lost madman was weeping bitterly, Someone asked him, 'Why are you shedding tears?' He said, 'Suppose I endure being naked, How can I not weep since I am hungry?' The other said, 'Even though you crave bread, Why would someone like you weep from hunger?' He replied, 'After all, how can I not weep with the force of ten, When He keeps me so hungry for this very reason, That I might weep like a cloud in early spring? Therefore, I weep now so bitterly.'
