عشق لقمان سرخسی زور کرد
سوی صحرا بردش و در شور کرد

شد چو طفلی خرد بر چوبی سوار
کرد چوبی نیز در دست استوار

گفت خواهم شد بجنگ امروز من
بو که یکباری شوم پیروز من

با دلی پر شور میشد همچنان
عاقبت ترکیش بگرفت آن زمان

ترک زود آن چوب از دستش بکند
پس بزخم چوب در بستش فکند

جامه و رویش همه درخون گرفت
بعد ازآن رفت و ره هامون گرفت

عاقبت برخاست لقمان شرمسار
جامه و رویش ز خون چون لاله زار

سوی شهر آمد بخون غرقه شده
خلق گرداگرد او حلقه شده

سایلی گفتش که جنگت چون برفت
گفت بد یا نیک باری خون برفت

گفت تو به آمدی یا او بحرب
گفت هم رویم ببین هم خرقه ضرب

چون من اندر جنگ بودم مرد مرد
زین چنین گلگونه رویم سرخ کرد

غرقهٔ خونم همی بنگر مپرس
جامه و رویم ببین دیگر مپرس

می نیارست او بخود این کار کرد
آمد و ترکیم با خود یار کرد

English translation

Love overpowered Luqman of Sarakhs, It led him to the desert and threw him into ecstasy. Like a small child, he mounted a wooden stick, And held another stick firmly in his hand. He said, 'I wish to go to war today, Perhaps this once I shall be victorious.' With a heart full of passion, he went along, Until finally, a Turk seized him at that moment. The Turk quickly snatched that stick from his hand, Then beat him with the stick and cast him down. His clothes and face were all covered in blood, After that, the Turk left and took the path of the plain. At last, Luqman rose, filled with shame, His clothes and face like a tulip field from the blood. He came toward the town, drenched in blood, And the crowd gathered in a circle around him. A questioner asked him, 'How did your battle go?' He said, 'For better or worse, at least blood was shed!' The questioner asked, 'Did you come out better in the fight, or did he?' He said, 'Look at my face, and see the blows on my cloak. Since I was in the battle like a true man, With such rouge, he made my face red. See me drowned in blood and ask no more; Look at my clothes and my face, and ask no more. He could not have done this to me on his own; My Beloved came and allied with that Turk.'
