آن وزیری را چو آمد مرگ پیش
کرد حیران روی سوی قوم خویش

گفت دردا و دریغا کز غرض
آخرت با خواجگی کردم عوض

زآرزوی این جهان میسوختم
لاجرم آن یک بدین بفروختم

میروم امروز جانی سوخته
رفته دنیا و آخرت بفروخته

ای دل غافل دمی بیدار شو
چند بد مستی کنی هشیار شو

رفتگان اندر نخستین منزلند
منتظر بنشسته و مستعجلند

بیش ازین در بند خودشان می مدار
چندشان فرمائی آخر انتظار

English translation

When death approached a certain vizier, Bewildered, he turned his face toward his people. He said, 'Alas and alack, out of self-interest, I exchanged the hereafter for lordship. I burned with desire for this world, Inevitably, I sold that one for this. Today I depart with a burned soul, The world is gone, and the hereafter sold. O heedless heart, awake for a moment, How long will you be dead drunk? Become sober. The departed are in the first station, Sitting in waiting and in a hurry. Do not keep them bound to yourself any longer, How much longer will you make them wait in the end?'
