Section 8 - The Tale and the Parable

Original content

English translation

There was a dervish, exceedingly sorrowful, Someone said to him, 'O mournful one, Cast sorrow out, because I too have done so.' He said, 'I did not bring this much sorrow myself. At this time, I am in mourning day and night, Who can take it away? He who brought this sorrow to me. All this sorrow that I suffer from my blood-filled heart, Since I did not bring it, how can I take it away? I know of no sorrow in the world Like separation, and there is no hardship harder than this. A hundred worlds of sorrow would vanish entirely Beside a single atom of the sorrow of separation. As long as an atom of your own existence remains, A hundred hard separations will be before you.'
