Section 6 - The Tale and the Parable

Original content

English translation

That woman had fallen into adultery, And out of remorse, had surrendered her body to blood. From the regret that the wretched one had, She was killing herself and casting herself into blood. Finally she went to the Prophet, Ashamed, she breathed a word of her story. The Prophet turned his head away from the path, She went to face him and spoke in that place. He turned his head away again from the other side, From the other side this woman came forward to him. She told her story and wept bitterly, And requested the Prophet to have her stoned. Mustafa (the Prophet) told her, "O distressed soul! Now is not the time for your stoning. Wait until you wash your head and empty your womb, For there might also be a child." That woman left, burning bitterly like this, Until she gave birth by the decree of the Creator. She endured that affliction and suffering for a while, Until a child appeared from her. She took her child before the Master (the Prophet), And said, "Deliver this dervish woman." Mustafa said to her, "Go, manage with patience, Until you wean this child from milk. Because if another's milk were sugar, Your milk is more suitable than all." That woman went and became a companion to affliction, Until that child was weaned from her milk. She brought that child back to that place, And said, "Remove this woman from the path. How much more should I burn? I have no endurance left, From the fire of the heart, no water remains on my liver." Mustafa said to her, "It is not the time for action, The child has no sponsor in the gathering. There is no one here for seven years, Who will keep him from water and fire. You yourself are more worthy, since he is alone, When you keep him for seven years, it will be enough." There was a person who stepped forward for that task, He took up the child and became the sponsor. This was very displeasing to Mustafa, Because it became a very troubling matter. Since someone became the caretaker for the child, By Islamic law (shari'a), at that moment her stoning became due. Mustafa ordered that many people, Each take up a stone from the path. Finally they stoned the woman, Until that sincere penitent found rest. Behind the woman's coffin, that Guide, Stepped on the tips of his toes. He said, "The multitude of angels has taken up the path, One cannot set foot in this place. No one made such a repentance in the age, That woman was in truth a man of action." Finally, when the Prophet performed the funeral prayer, He buried that slain one and returned. Morteza (Ali) saw that woman in a dream that night, He said, "Behold! How did the Truth (God) address you?" She said, "The Truth said, 'Did you not know, That I sent the Prophets out for this reason: So that they may lay the foundation of the religious law (shari'a)? Whatever I have said to that extent, they lay down to that extent. Since Muhammad was the trustworthy one of the age, He could not abandon the stoning. O you who have suffered stones out of your own injustice! You were at war with your own God. You went towards him (the Prophet) ten times, and then, Towards Us, you said you knew no way. If you had turned to Us in secret just once, You would have become absolved of your sin. I would have sent Gabriel then, And given you the mandate of pardon for eternity.'"
