Section 10 - The Tale and the Parable

Original content

English translation

A spiritual dervish came before Haidar, And asked three questions of that ocean of knowledge.

He said, 'I have come from seventy leagues away, Come, give me an answer, for I have come distressed.

What is poverty, and sickness, and death?' Haidar gave him three ready answers.

He said, 'Your poverty is ignorance; Material poverty, even if it were a whole world, is easy.

Sickness is entirely harboring envy, And your bad temper is entirely death.'
