Section 2 - The Tale and the Parable

Original content

English translation

He said, one day a Huma bird was flying, Whoever in Mahmud's army saw it, All together galloped into its shadow, Throwing themselves upon one another. Until Ayaz came and attained his desire, He took refuge in Mahmud's shadow. Then, in that shadow amidst the dust of the road, He would constantly bow his head before the King. Someone said to him, 'O bewildered mind! The shadow of the Huma's wing is not there.' He said, 'My Sultan is Huma enough for me, His shadow is guide enough for me. Since I knew that this is the only task, In both worlds, this is the only pursuit. I will never turn my head away from his court, I will walk headlong and footless in his path.'
