Section 6 - The Tale and the Parable

Original content

English translation

On a night when the world turned black from the clouds, A madman had fallen upon the road. In a desert amidst thunder and lightning, The lightning burning him, the rain drowning him. With bloodshot eyes, he traversed the harsh path, With a heart full of dread, he feared immensely. An invisible caller cried out from the depths of his soul, Saying, 'God is with you, fear less, O young man.' He replied, 'Then, if the truth must be spoken, I am afraid of why He is with me! I am so trembling from the fear of Him, Tell Him to do whatever He wants while I am alive. When I die, I will tightly grasp His hem, Perhaps, at last, His heart will ache for me.' Whoever holds even a speck of this fire, Will find the lamentations of madmen pleasing. Because their entire affair is yielding the heart, Being headlong and falling into helplessness. Whatever they see is nothing but a dream, The people of the world to them are nothing but a mirage. A world has become filled with tumult and cries, All of them having become like skins full of wind.
