بود محمود و حسن در بارگاه
گشته هم خلوت وزیر و پادشاه

نه یکی آمد نه یک تن راه خواست
نه گدائی قرب شاهنشاه خواست

هیچکس در دادخواهی ره نجست
هم رعیت هم سپاهی ره نجست

بود بر درگاه آرامی عظیم
نه امیدی هیچکس را و نه بیم

با وزیر خویش گفت آن شهریار
بر در ما کو نشان کار و بار

نه کسی فریاد میخواهد زما
نه گدائی داد میخواهد ز ما

هر کرا زینسان در عالی بود
کی روا باشد اگر خالی بود

این چنین درگاه عالی ای وزیر
نیست خوش از شور خالی ای وزیر

آن وزیرش گفت عدلی این چنین
کز تو ظاهر گشت درروی زمین

چون جهان پر عدل دارد پادشاه
کی تواند بود هرگز دادخواه

شاه گفتا راست گفتی این زمان
شور اندازم جهانی در جهان

این بگفت و لشکری را راست کرد
پس ز هر شهر و دهی درخواست کرد

جوش و شوری در همه عالم فتاد
درگه محمود خالی کم فتاد

شد در او موج زن از کار و بار
آنچه آن میخواست آن گشت آشکار

English translation

Mahmud and Hasan were in the court, The vizier and the king having retired in private. Neither anyone came, nor did a single person seek entry, Nor did a beggar seek the presence of the king of kings. No one sought a path to demand justice, Neither subject nor soldier sought a path. There was an immense tranquility at the court, No one had either hope or fear. That monarch said to his vizier, "Where is the sign of business and affairs at our door? No one seeks our intervention for their cries, No beggar demands justice from us. Whoever has such a lofty court, How could it be fitting if it is empty? Such a lofty court, O vizier, Is not pleasing when empty of commotion, O vizier." His vizier said, "Such justice, That has been manifested by you upon the face of the earth, Since the king maintains a world full of justice, How could there ever be anyone seeking justice?" The king said, "You spoke the truth; at this moment, I shall cast a world of commotion into the world." He said this, and readied an army, Then he levied demands from every city and village. A tumult and commotion fell upon the entire world, The court of Mahmud rarely remained empty. It became surging with business and affairs, What he desired became manifest.
