گفت چون یعقوب بر عزم سفر
رفت از کنعان برون پیش پسر

مصریان بی پا و سر برخاستند
پای تا سر مصر را آراستند

چون زلیخا را خبر آمد ازآن
نه بپای اما بسر آمد دوان

ژندهٔ بر سر فکند آن بی قرار
بر میان خاک ره بنشست خوار

یوسف صدیق را بر رهگذر
اوفتاد آخر برآن بی دل نظر

تازیانه بود بر اسبش بدست
برد حالی سوی آن مجنون مست

برکشید از دل دمی آن سوخته
تازیانش گشت از آن افروخته

ای عجب چون گشت از آن آتش بلند
تازیانه یوسف از دست اوفکند

تا زلیخا گفت ای پاکیزه دین
نیست در خورد جوانمردیت این

آتشی کز جان من آمد براه
تو بدست اندر نمی داری نگاه

سالها زین آتشم پر بود جان
گو ترا در دست باش این یک زمان

آنچه از عشق تو از جانم دمید
یک نفس در دست نتوانی کشید

تو سر مردان دینی من زنی
این وفاداری بود با چون منی

شرح دادن حال عاشق جاودان
از عبارت برترست و از بیان

گر زفان گردد دو گیتی سالها
هم نیارد داد شرح حالها

English translation

He said, when Jacob, with the resolve to travel, Went out from Canaan to his son, The Egyptians arose eagerly (without foot and head), And adorned Egypt from head to foot. When news of this came to Zulaykha, She came running, not on her feet but on her head. That restless one threw a patched garment over her head, And sat abjectly in the middle of the dusty road. On the path, Joseph the Truthful Finally cast a glance upon that one who had lost her heart. He had a whip in his hand on his horse, He immediately reached it toward that intoxicated madwoman. That burnt one drew a sigh from her heart, His whip became ignited by it. Oh wonder, when that fire rose high, Joseph dropped the whip from his hand. Then Zulaykha said, 'O pure of faith, This is not worthy of your chivalry. A fire that came to the path from my soul, You cannot keep hold of in your hand. For years my soul was full of this fire, Say, let it be in your hand for just this one moment. That which breathed from my soul due to your love, You cannot bear to hold in your hand for a single breath. You are the head of the men of faith, and I am a woman; Is this fidelity with someone like me?' To explain the state of the eternal lover Is beyond expression and explanation. If both worlds became tongues for years, They still could not explain these states.
