آن یکی پرسید از مجنون مگر
کز کدامین سوی قبله ست ای پسر

گفت اگر هستی کلوخی بیخبر
اینکت کعبه ست در سنگی نگر

کعبهٔ عشاق مولی آمدست
آن مجنون روی لیلی آمدست

چون تو نه اینی نه آن هستی کلوخ
قلبت از سنگ است ای بیشرم شوخ

گرچه کعبه قبلهٔ خلق جهانست
لیک دایم قبله جای کعبه جانست

در حرم گاهی که قرب جان بود
صد هزاران کعبه سرگردان بود

English translation

Someone happened to ask Majnun, 'From which direction is the Qibla, oh son?' He said, 'If you are an ignorant clod of earth, Here is the Kaaba, gaze upon a stone. The Kaaba of the lovers is the Lord, Just as Majnun faces Layla. Since you are neither this nor that, you are but a clod; Your heart is made of stone, oh shameless, brazen one. Although the Kaaba is the Qibla for the people of the world, Yet the true Qibla is always the place of the Kaaba of the soul. In the sanctuary, whenever there is proximity to the soul, A hundred thousand Kaabas would wander in bewilderment.'
