شیخ گرگانی مگر آن شمع شرع
میشد اندر شارعی با جمع شرع

بود آن وقتی نظام الملک خرد
اطلسش مییافتند او زیر برد

با گروهی کودکان بیخبر
گوی میزد در میان رهگذر

شیخ را با قوم چون از دور دید
از میان رهگذر یکسو دوید

گفت بنشانید از ره گرد را
زانکه گر گردی رسد این مرد را

جمله را بدبختی آرد بار از آن
هیچکس را برنیاید کار ازآن

شیخ کان بشنود و آن حرمت بدید
از چنان طفلی چنان همت بدید

از بزرگی پیر گفت ای طفل خرد
بفکن آن چوگان که بختت گوی برد

خلق میکوشند تا طاقت کنند
تا نظام الملک آفاقت کنند

زین ادب زین حرمت وزین خوی تو
ای نظام الملک بردی گوی تو

گوی چون بردی برو دیگر مباز
خواجهٔ چوگان بیفکن سرفراز

English translation

Sheikh Gorgani, that candle of the religious law, Was walking along a thoroughfare with a company of the law. At that time, Nizam al-Mulk was a young child, They found him wearing silk beneath his cloak. With a group of carefree children, He was playing ball in the middle of the road. When he saw the Sheikh and his companions from afar, He ran to one side from the middle of the road. He said, 'Lay the dust of the path, For if any dust reaches this man, It will bring misfortune upon us all, And no one’s affairs will succeed.' When the Sheikh heard this and saw that respect, And witnessed such high aspiration from such a young child, Out of his greatness, the elder said, 'O little child, Cast away that mallet, for your fortune has won the ball. People are striving to have the strength To make you the Nizam al-Mulk of the world. By this courtesy, this respect, and this nature of yours, O Nizam al-Mulk, you have won the ball. Since you have won the ball, go and do not play it away again; Cast away the mallet, O proud master.'
