سالک جان بر لب دل پر نیاز
گفت با داود داء ود باز

کای به داودی جهان معرفت
از ودودت ود میبینم صفت

جمع شد سر محبت صد جهان
نام آن داود آمد در زفان

دی که روز عرض ذریات بود
ذرهٔ تو انور الذرات بود

نور عشقت از جهان قدس و راز
بود همره جانت را زان وقت باز

بود در جانت جهانی را ز نور
آن همه حق شرح دادت در زبور

لاجرم آن رازهای غمگسار
جمله در آوازت آمد آشکار

ای خوش آوازیت با جان ساخته
خلق از حلق تو جان در باخته

ای دل پاک تو دریای علوم
زآتش عشق تو آهن گشته موم

آتشی کآهن تواند نرم کرد
هردو عالم را تواند گرم کرد

آن چه آتش بود کآمد آشکار
تا زبانش گشت بی دل چل هزار

راه گم کردم مرا آگاه کن
ذرهٔ زان آتشم همراه کن

تا میان پیچ پیچی جهان
راه یابم سوی آن گنج نهان

گفت داودش که یک کار ملوک
راست نامد در ره حق بی سلوک

پادشاهانی که در دین آمدند
جمله در کار از پی این آمدند

گر برین درگاه باری بایدت
عزم راهی قصد کاری بایدت

گر باخلاصی فرو آئی براه
مصطفی راهت دهد تا پیشگاه

در ره او باز اگر هستیت هست
دامن او گیر اگر دستیت هست

گر گدای او شوی شاهت کند
ور نهٔ آگاه آگاهت کند

چون گذشتی در حقیقت از احد
احمد آید مرجع تو تا ابد

راهرو را سوی او باید شدن
معتکف در کوی او باید شدن

چون تو گشتی بر در او معتکف
مختلف بینی بوحدت متصف

مرده دل آنجا مرو ناتن درست
زندگی حاصل کن از عیسی نخست

سالک آمد پیش پیر دل فروز
بازگفتش حال خود از درد و سوز

پیر گفتش جان داود نبی
هست دریای مودت مذهبی

در مودت درد دایم خاص اوست
موم گشته آهن از اخلاص اوست

English translation

The wayfarer, soul on his lips, heart full of need, Spoke again with David of the disease of love. Saying, 'O you, in whose Davidic quality is the world of gnosis, From the All-Loving (Wadud), I see love (wud) as your attribute. The secret of love of a hundred worlds gathered, And its name became David on the tongue. Yesterday, which was the day of presenting the atoms (souls), Your atom was the most luminous of atoms. The light of your love from the world of sanctity and mystery, Has been the companion to your soul ever since then. There was a world of light within your soul, The Truth (God) expounded all of it to you in the Psalms. Inevitably, those sorrow-dispelling secrets, All became manifest in your singing voice. O, your sweet voice, harmonized with the soul, Mankind has yielded its soul through your throat. O, your pure heart is the ocean of sciences, From the fire of your love, iron has become wax. A fire that can soften iron, Can warm both worlds. What was that fire that appeared, That its tongue became forty thousand without a heart? I have lost the way, make me aware, Let a particle of that fire accompany me. So that amidst the twists and turns of the world, I may find the way to that hidden treasure.' David said to him, 'That single act of kings, Is not achieved on the path of Truth without wayfaring (suluk). The kings who have entered the religion, Have all engaged in action to pursue this. If you desire an audience at this court, You need the resolve for the road and the intention for the task. If you step onto the path with sincerity, Mustafa (Muhammad) will guide you to the vanguard. On his path, if your existence still remains, Grasp his hem if you have a hand. If you become his beggar, he will make you a king, And if you are unaware, he will make you aware. When in truth you pass beyond Ahad (The One), Ahmad (Muhammad) will be your refuge until eternity. The wayfarer must go toward him, He must become a recluse in his alley. When you become a recluse at his door, You will see the diverse characterized by unity. Do not go there with a dead heart and an unhealed body, First, acquire life from Jesus.' The wayfarer came before the heart-illuminating elder, And recounted his state of pain and burning. The elder said to him, 'The soul of David the Prophet, Is the ocean of affection as his religion. In affection, continuous pain is his specialty, Iron has become wax because of his sincerity.'
