English translation

The seeker came like sugar before the plant He said, 'O you whose greenness is from the Water of Life Your purity has come like essential water You have become receptive to the vegetative soul The Splitter of the Seed has given you provision The grain of love has given you a hundred new melodies You have become an intimate of the green-clad ones Inevitably you have become the fresh one of the world The food of spirits and vision is from you Heart-opening and heart-expanding are from you In the world, a fresh fruit every moment is yours A hundred Gardens of Eden in the world are yours All medicine and remedy grew from you The rose bloomed from you and the basil grew from you There is no thorn from you without a straight cypress No fire [pomegranate] appears from you without goodness [a quince] When the fire blossomed from your green branch A remedy appeared for Moses's pain The story of 'Indeed, I am Allah' is yours The Lote Tree and Tuba together are in your rank The Master of the Two Worlds found grace from you In prayer, he found the grapes of Paradise from you The love of the Hannana pillar arose like fire from you That yearning of it arose so sweetly from you How can I have the explanation of your staff? A Moses is needed to speak of the staff Since you found the freshness of fortune You split hairs in growth and development Then you have taken a stream towards the sea Since you have aloe wood, you have carried a fragrance Either revive my soul with a fragrance Or make my remedy from a medicine.' From these words, the plant's life became very bitter You'd say not even sugar cane remained alive in it It said, 'Since I brought my head out of the earth, Day and night I moan like this out of longing. For a few short days when I find watering, After that I make my face pale like a quince. When in greenness I find perfection, I lay my head in yellowness and decline. I bring my head up fresh at the beginning of the work, Then I crumble down at the end, yellow and miserable. Sometimes they lay a saw harshly on my head, Sometimes they cut me harshly piece by piece. Sometimes they burn me and turn me to ashes, Sometimes they behead my body with a sickle. Sometimes they eat me, and sometimes they spill me on the earth, I have explained a very painful story. What you seek is not with me in myself, Because with me there is nothing more than color and scent. Since my color and scent have no secret, How will a door ever open for you from me?' The seeker came before the sweet-tongued elder He made his condition clear before him. The elder told him, 'Trees and plants are, From their small ones and great ones, a metaphor for the essence. The wise and perfect ones became its great ones; The heartless and mad in love became its small ones. Whoever found their soul an intimate of the Desired One, Like a tree, found the greenness of this path. Either he found perfection at His court, Or else his heart became mad on His path. Whoever became mad for the Heart-Soother, Would repeat whatever his heart desired.'
