جواب پدر / The Father's Answer

پدر گفتش تو زنهار این میندیش
که برگیرم خیال شهوة از پیش

ولی چون تو ز عالم این گزیدی
هم این گفتی و هم این را شنیدی

بدان مانست کز صد عالم اسرار
نهٔ تو جز ز یک شهوة خبردار

منت زان این سخن گفتم بخلوت
که تا بیرون نهی گامی ز شهوت

چو با عیسی توان هم راز بودن
که خواهد با خری انباز بودن

چرا با خر شریک آئی به شهوت
چو با عیسی توان بودن بخلوت

چو یک دم بیش نیست این شهوة آخر
ازان به جاودانی خلوة آخر

چودایم می کند باقیست خلوت
زمانی در گذر یعنی ز شهوت

ز شهوة نیست خلوة هیچ مطلوب
کسی کین سر ندارد هست معیوب

ولیکن چون رسد شهوة بغایت
ز شهوة عشق زاید بی نهایت

ولی چون عشق گردد سخت بسیار
محبت از میان آید پدیدار

محبت چون بحد خود رسد نیز
شود جان تو در محبوب ناچیز

ز شهوة درگذر چون نیست مطلوب
که اصل جمله محبوبست محبوب

اگر کشته شوی در راه او زار
بسی به زانکه در شهوة گرفتار

English translation

The father said to him, 'Take heed, do not think this, That I will remove the thought of lust from before you. But since you chose this from the world, You have both spoken this and heard this. It is as if, out of a hundred worlds of secrets, You are aware of nothing except a single lust. I spoke this word to you in privacy So that you might take a step out of lust. Since one can be a confidant to Jesus, Who would want to be a partner to a donkey? Why would you become a partner with a donkey in lust, When you can be in solitude with Jesus? Since this lust is ultimately no more than a single moment, An eternal solitude is better than that. Since solitude remains forever, Pass away for a moment, that is, from lust. In lust, solitude is not desired at all; Anyone who does not possess this secret is defective. But when lust reaches its extreme limit, From lust is born infinite love. But when love becomes very intense, Affection appears in the midst. When affection also reaches its limit, Your soul becomes nothing in the Beloved. Pass away from lust since it is not the desired goal, For the origin of everything is the Beloved, the Beloved. If you are slain miserably in His path, It is far better than being trapped in lust.'
