(3) The Tale of the King Who Fled from the Army

Original content

English translation

An army fell upon a city, And a king fled secretly from that city. He went to a city and changed his garments, So that neither the elite nor the commoners recognized him. An acquaintance recognized him, And said to him: 'Why are you like a beggar? Speak up at last, say, "I am their king!" Why do you sit here humbled and distressed?' The king said to him: 'Say nothing, just watch, For if I speak, they will tear me to pieces. He who does not possess the vision of the King, Cannot possibly go to the King. If you seek proximity to the King without proper vision, You will then be in the blood of your own life.'
