(۵) حکایت یعقوب و یوسف علیهما السلام / (5) The Tale of Jacob and Joseph, Peace Be Upon Them

چو یعقوب و چو یوسف آن دو دلداربهم دیگر رسیدند آخر کار
When Jacob and Joseph, those two beloveds,
Finally reunited at the end of the affair,
پدر گفتش که ای چشم و چراغمچو از گریه بپالودی دماغم
The father told him, 'O my eye and my light,
Since you exhausted my mind with weeping,
مرا در کلبهٔ احزان نشاندیجهانی آتشم در جان فشاندی
You seated me in the Hut of Sorrows,
You scattered a world of fire into my soul.
بچندین گاه خوش دم درکشیدیتو گوئی هرگزم روزی ندیدی
For so long you happily remained silent,
As if you had never seen me for a single day.
چرا کردی چنین بیدادی آخربمن یک نامه نفرستادی آخر
Why did you commit such cruelty in the end?
Why did you never send me a single letter?
پدر در درد چندین گاه از تودلت می داد، بی آگاه از تو
Your father was in pain for so long because of you;
How could your heart endure leaving him unaware of you?'
بخادم گفت یوسف ای تناوربرو آن نامها نزد من آور
Joseph said to his servant, 'O stout one,
Go and bring those letters to me.'
شد آن مرد و برفتن کرد آهنگهزاران نامه بیش آورد یکرنگ
That man departed and set off on his way,
He brought back over a thousand uniform letters.
نوشته جمله بسم الله بر سرولی چون برف آن باقی دیگر
All had 'In the Name of God' written at the top,
But the rest was blank like snow.
پدر را گفت ای شمع بهشتممن این جمله بسوی تو نوشتم
He said to his father, 'O candle of my paradise,
I wrote all of these to you.
ز شرح حال و احوال سلامتچو من بنوشتمی جمله تمامت
Of the explanation of my condition and state of well-being,
When I would write them entirely complete,
بجز نام خدا بالای نامهنماندی خط ز سر تا پای نامه
Except for the name of God at the top of the letter,
Not a line would remain from the top to the bottom.
همه نامه برنگ برف گشتیکه بی خط ماندی و بی حرف گشتی
The whole letter would turn the color of snow,
For it would remain without a line and without a word.
رسیدی جبرئیل آنگه ز جبارکه نفرستی بدو یک نامه زنهار
Then Gabriel would arrive from the Almighty,
[Saying], Beware, do not send him a single letter!
که گر نامه فرستی سوی آن پیرشود خط چو قیر نامه چون شیر
For if you send a letter to that old man,
The pitch-black script on the letter will turn white as milk.'
کنون عذر من مشتاق این بودکه نامه نافرستادن چنین بود
Now, the excuse of this yearning one is this:
That the reason for not sending letters was such.
اگرچه خواستم من حق نمی خواستازان کاری بدست من نشد راست
Although I wanted to, the Truth (God) did not want it;
Therefore, the task could not be accomplished by my hand.'
اگر مهر پسر حاصل کنی توچگر خوردن بسی در دل کنی تو
If you harbor the love of a son,
You will suffer much heartache within.
پسر گرچه چو یوسف خوب باشدترا غم خوردن یعقوب باشد
Even if the son is as good as Joseph,
You will have to suffer the sorrow of Jacob.
که خواهد یافت فرزندی چو یوسفبسی یعقوب خورد از وی تأسف
Who will find a child like Joseph?
Yet Jacob suffered much sorrow because of him.
پدر هرگز نباشد همچو یعقوببسی خون خورد بی آن یوسف خوب
A father will never be like Jacob;
He suffered greatly without that good Joseph.
اگر هستی پسر جانت پدر سوختوگر هستی پدر چشمت پسر دوخت
If you are a son, your father burned your soul;
And if you are a father, the son has fixed your eyes (in waiting).
ترا حجت درین کنه ولایتتمامست ای پسر این یک حکایت
As a proof for you in this essence of dominion,
O son, this one tale is entirely sufficient.
