رفیقی گفت با مجنون گمراه
که لیلی مرد گفت الحمدلله
چنین گفت او که ای شوریده دین تو
چو می سوزی چرا گوئی چنین تو
چنین گفت او که چون من بهره زان ماه
ندیدستم نبیند هیچ بد خواه
English translation
A friend said to the astray Majnun: "Layla has died." He said: "Praise be to God!" The other said: "O you of frenzied faith, Since you burn, why do you speak thus?" He replied: "Since a share of that moon I have not received, nor shall any ill-wisher see."
