(۸) تمثیل / (8) Allegory

بزرگی گفت ازل همچون کمان است
هزاران تیر هر دم زو روان است

ز دیگر سو ابد آماج گاهی
نه زین سو و نه زان امکان راهی

همی هر تیر کآید از کمان راست
عنایت بود تیر انداز را خواست

ولی هر تیر کآید کوژ از راه
همی بر تیر نفرین بارد آنگاه

ازین حالی عجب تر می ندانم
دلم خون گشت دیگر می ندانم

English translation

A great one said: Eternity-past is like a bow, Thousands of arrows are flying from it at every moment. On the other side, Eternity-future is a target, With no way of access from this side or that. Every arrow that comes straight from the bow, Was grace, and the archer's intent. But every arrow that comes crooked along the way, A curse showers upon that arrow then. I know of no state more wondrous than this, My heart turned to blood; I know no more.
