Original content

English translation

The traveler came and took the Tablet as his guide, Like a bewildered pen, he started anew from the Tablet. He said to the Tablet, 'O you who are all fragrance and spirit, There is no allusion to you in any other tablet. You are the receiver of the mystery-filled verses, You are the bearer of meaningful words. The pattern-maker of the eternal court's decree, Has made the entire painting of knowledge and action The adornment of your essence for all eternity, And made all secrets into your verses. Whatever has happened and will happen in both worlds, Is evident on you one by one, in various hues. All the beautiful decrees are yours to read, How could you not read, when the well-read script is yours? Since you encompass all secrets, Provide a remedy for the affair of this idle one. For if the door is not opened for me by the Tablet, Like a pen, I will lose my head out of grief.' At these words, the Tablet turned and said, 'Arise! Do not spill your own honor and ours! I am sitting restless like children, Unknowingly with a tablet placed by my side. Whatever line falls from the pen, I read it aloud out of fear of the Master. Every moment, with a heart full of envy, I wash the pattern of the tablet with my tears. If anyone saw life from a tablet, A dead person also has a tablet upon being cast down. The pre-eternal decree kneaded a hundred worlds together, Every moment it inscribes a tablet upon me from that pattern. Inevitably, I read that tablet from memory, Every moment I take up the tablet anew. Every moment they pull my skirt in a different direction, I am distressingly marked by the many lines they draw upon me. They completely engulf me in words, They constantly place a finger upon my letters. I remain bewildered, with neither soul nor body visible, Waiting to see what pattern will emerge from within myself. Cast away the tablet, O you who are exalted like the Throne! You will not return to the schoolhouse again. Although there are many lines in my honor, There is no line of love in my registry. Look at my pain, shake off your skirt and go, Take a letter of absolution from me and go.' The traveler came before the sorrowful elder, And explained his condition to him from his pure soul. The elder told him, 'God's Preserved Tablet Is the world of knowledge and the pattern of the divine presence. Wherever there are secrets hidden in knowledge, The Tablet has such a pattern in its reflection. There is a pattern of affliction and a pattern of fortune, Whatever exists in that place is without cause. The causeless affair proceeds from there, Affliction and fortune proceed from there.'
