English translation

The seeker came before the pure-flowing water, He said, 'O pure and agile-flowing one, In the world, every single thing that exists is from you, And through you, without a doubt, whatever exists is unravelled. Wherever there is the trace of your verdure, Bringing freshness is the way of your work. Salsabil, Kawthar, and Ridwan belong to you, The life of the spring of immortality belongs to you. You flow pleasantly and freshly in the path of the Beloved, Inevitably, every moment you flow more pleasantly. From the perfection of love for the Beloved, like a pen, First, you lay your head on the path before you step. You are always both purifying and pure, A body and a soul, both inward and outward. In everything, you are flowing like a soul, In both worlds, Noah found rest through a secret from you. Whoever has honor (water), that person is lower than you, For the honor (water of the face) of whoever exists is from your hand. Nothing is harder than a thirsty iron, By you, a dagger becomes tempered (watered). He who gave such abundant water to iron, Can also make my soul restless. Give me news from His door for just one moment, So that one moment may be a hundred worlds to me.' The water, from this, became inflamed like a fire, A fire arose from it, and from the water it came. It said, 'After all, who am I but a wet-skirted (sinful) one? From my wet body, I am neither man nor woman. The whole world has washed their hands of me, The moist temperament of the children of Adam is from me. I go headlong and barefoot day and night, I constantly seek this meaning. Sometimes I flow softly from despair, Sometimes I go hotly from conceit. Sometimes I boil in a hundred ways for this reason, Sometimes I cry and roar for this reason. I, who from head to foot am all tears because of this, Am without head or foot from the fire of my jealousy for this. For a while, I went with the hope of betterment, My affair did not succeed from an empty water. It is as if my goal has seen me, But for once, on the path of the mill, If I come hotly in pursuit like fire, It tells me, "Go on the sand, O discourteous one!" With such pain, I have not perceived His scent, How can I guide another towards Him?' The seeker came before the helping Elder, And presented the jewel of the casket of his mind. The Elder said to him, 'The pure water has fallen short, Its work is always to give purification. Since water was originally born of purity, The foundation of the Divine Throne on water was because of that. Whoever is pure in this path, His soul is aware of the purity of Truth. You have fallen polluted from your dog-like ego, You have fallen invisible in impurity. Not for one hour has your Pharaoh-like ego broken, If you don't have Egypt, you have your Pharaoh-hood. In your Pharaoh-hood, you are comprehensive like Egypt, You are a friend of Pharaoh and have the fortune of Haman. A slave of belly and groin, a carrion-eater, A corpse by night and an idler by day. That dog of hell that you have heard of, Has slept within you and you rest comfortably. This dog of hell that eats fire, Whatever you give it, it eats happily. Wait until tomorrow, the dog of your ego and selfhood, Will raise its head from hell in enmity towards you. This dog is your enemy, and worse than a dog, How long will you nourish the dog, O unaware one? Give food to the ego constantly for the sake of the heart, So that your food does not become forbidden to you. When is food a forbidden thing if you eat? Like men, eat food if you eat.'
