مصطفی چون آمد از معراج در
وام میخواست از جهودی جومگر

از برای قوت جو میخواستش
وان جهود سگ گرو میخواستش

هر دو عالم دید آن شب ارزنی
روز دیگر جو نبودش یک منی

لاجرم چون این و آن یکسانش بود
هر دو عالم زیر یک فرمانش بود

ضعف ایمان باشدت ای ناتوان
تو چه دانی سر فقر شب روان

جان آدم نیز سر فقر سوخت
هشت جنت را بیک گندم فروخت

English translation

When Mustafa (Muhammad) returned from the Ascension, He sought to borrow some barley from a Jew. He wanted the barley for sustenance, And that dog of a Jew demanded a pledge from him. That night he had seen both worlds as a mere grain of millet, Yet the next day he did not possess a single maund of barley. Inevitably, since this and that were the same to him, Both worlds were under his single command. It is a weakness of faith in you, O feeble one, What do you know of the secret of the poverty of the night-travelers? The soul of Adam also burned for the secret of poverty; He sold the eight paradises for a single grain of wheat.
