Section 10 - The Tale and the Parable

Original content

English translation

A very beautiful woman was walking on a path, A man saw her eyes, which acted like a highway robber. The woman's eyes struck his eyes with a bewitching glance, The arrow of her eyelashes suddenly pierced his liver. The woman walked on, and the man followed in her footsteps. The woman looked back and said, 'O young man, What is the matter with you?' He said, 'Your robber-like eyes Ambushed me when I laid eyes upon your bright eyes.' At that moment, the woman threw the veil off her face, So that he saw that face, shining like the sun. The man completely lost his senses right there, Every part of his being became intoxicated right there. When the woman finally entered her own house, Her lover stood at the door, lost in thought. Eventually, out of audacity, he threw a stone inside. The woman came out, saying, 'O disturbed one, go away! Go your own way, O bewildered soul, Lest the people of this house cut off your head.' The man said to her, 'Since you were not to be mine, Why did you show your face to me?' She said, 'In truth, I like it very much That someone should love me constantly. When you make the foundation of love firm, You make yourself an intimate in the sanctuary. So that when the time of your annihilation (fana) arrives, Your Friend will be there in your place, without you.'
