هست در دریا یکی حیوان گرم
نام بوقلمون و هفت اعضاش نرم

نرمی اعضای او چندان بود
کو هر آن شکلی که خواهد آن بود

هر زمان شکلی دگر نیکو کند
هرچه بیند خویش مثل او کند

چون شود حیوان بحری آشکار
او بدان صورت درآید از کنار

چون همه چون خویش بینندش ز دور
کی شوند از جنس خود هرگز نفور

او درآید لاجرم از گوشهٔ
خویش را سازد از ایشان توشهٔ

چون طلسم او نگردد آشکار
او بدین حیلت کند دایم شکار

گر دلت آگاه معنی آمدست
کار دینت ترک دنیا آمدست

English translation

There is a warm animal in the sea, Named Buqalamun (chameleon), and its seven limbs are soft. The softness of its limbs is such That it can take any shape it desires. Every moment it beautifully takes on another shape, Whatever it sees, it makes itself like it. When a sea creature appears, It takes on that creature's form from the side. Since they all see it as their own kind from afar, How could they ever be repelled by their own kind? It inevitably approaches from a corner And makes a meal out of them for itself. Since its magic spell does not become apparent, It constantly hunts with this trick. If your heart has become aware of the meaning, The work of your religion is to abandon the world.
